Earlier this month the mayors of South Bend and Mishawaka stepped up to their podiums to deliver their State of The City addresses.  Throughout their speeches they listed the various accomplishments of their cities in 2010, and laid out plans for 2011 and beyond.

Their addresses were well reported by the media, and it is my intention in this post to elaborate on just one facet of their speeches: alternative transportation. Biking and walking.  A lot is going on that we, as bikers and walkers don’t fully appreciate. Continue reading »

The City of South Bend has issued a media release regarding its preferred plan to connect the river walk between South Bend and Mishawaka. South Bend’s river walk currently stops at the IUSB campus, but the new section will extend it to Logan St, and thus provide connectivity to the Mishawaka river walk. For more information, please see the city’s media release or the article published today in the South Bend Tribune (freely available for one week).

For the third consecutive legislative session, new bicycle laws are being considered. Both proposals would require youngsters up to 17 years of age wear a helmet. One proposal would add a requirement that motorists passing a bike allow at least three feet clearance. As of February 7, each bill has been assigned to committee, but neither has been heard. Distances: Choose from 5, 25, 40, 60 or a century (100 mile) ride!

  • Participants receive a free t-shirt while supplies last
  • SAG and Road Support provided 6:00 – 3:00 pm
  • All ages welcome!

Run/Walk Events
Date: Saturday, August 27th
Location: La Porte, IN
Distances: Choose from ½ Marathon, 5K Chip Timed Run, 5K Non-Competitive Walk, or Mini Tour Fun Run (children 4-8 years of age)
