The Bike Michiana Coalition provided $20,000 to help with construction

Mishawaka’s parks department will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, not just for the bike park but for a totally revamped Mary Gibbard Park, where a small pool has given way to a large splash pad, bathrooms, paved walks and a potpourri of playground equipment. There will be riding lessons, weather permitting.

The Northern Indiana Mountain Bike Association will celebrate since it linked the city with Miller, who had experience building mountain bike trails in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Minnesota and Arkansas. The Bike Michiana Coalition provided $20,000 to help with construction, while the city invested about $25,000 for the project. Parks Superintendent Phil Blasko says the city saved “a ton of money” by working directly with them.
