13 Miles of New Bike Lanes for 2008!

Mayor Steve Luecke has announced 13 miles of new bike lanes for 2008.  The mayor’s announcement nicely tied in to this year’s very successful Bike to Work Week. This will certainly help keep the city on track for meeting his goal of 50 miles of bike routes by 2011. That number includes separated bike paths, striped bike lanes on existing roads and signed routes.

You can read more about the announcement at this URL.  Here’s a direct link to a map showing the upcoming bike lanes:  PDF.  Joe Dits also wrote a very nice article, featuring quotes from Bill and Judy Lee and Twyckenham residents, in the June 6th South Bend Tribune.  Here’s a URL, but I think it will only be free for a few more days.

I’m pleased to see that the city is continuing to make progress and very much hope to see continued connectivity in the coming years!
