Bike Michiana Coalition Accomplishments-2008-2019
- Worked with the City of South Bend to achieve Bicycle Friendly City status—now at the Silver level
- Worked with the City of South Bend to develop its first bicycle lane network—also provided funding for lanes
- Provided major funding to support the hiring of a regional bike coordinator by Michiana Area Council of Governments
- Provided major funding for trail building, including Granger Paths, Pumpkinvine Trail, the Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail, and the Chickaming Park mountain bike trails
- Organized Annual Michiana Bike to Work Week. All cyclists are encouraged to ride their bikes instead of their car as much as possible and continue the habit .
- Funded and helped produce regional bicycle route maps
- Successfully worked with South Bend Common Council and city officials to pass the 3-Foot passing law
- Provided support for community cycling events, including Bike the Bend, the Mayors’ Ride, and Everybody Bikes South Bend
- Created South Bend Cycles to provide bicycle maintenance and information
- Provided funding for area ghost bike program
- Encouraged and funded installation of wayfinding signs on trails and bicycle routes
- Created Bike Safety Classes for elementary students and provided hundreds of helmets to third-graders
- Participated in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation (NBPD) Project
- Contributed $20,000 to development of the pump track at Mary Gibbard Park in Mishawaka
