South Bend is already a bike friendly city. And it may get bike “friendlier.” Tuesday, the Board of Works unanimously approved a study about the possibility of bringing a bike share system to town. Bike shares are popular in cities like Chicago.
Bike share systems allow users to pick up a bicycle at any self-service station and return it to any station located within the system’s service area.
Initial planning will begin this summer that will allow South Bend to vie for federal transportation dollars to fund the project with the first bikes available by the end of 2017.
