The Velib bike rental program in Paris has been running for over a year now, and everything I’ve read about it has been overwhelmingly positive. Both New York City and Chicago are now investigating programs of their own. Apparently an organization in NYC is running a bike sharing program for a week to demonstrate its feasibility.
I’m not sure if this could really work in Michiana except on its college campuses. I think it would only be useful for tourists, visitors, students, and others who have no space to keep a bike of their own. Still, it’s yet another way in which bikes are quickly showing their versatility as the mode of the millennium.
Streetfilms and the New York Bike Share Project both have some great zeitgeisty stuff going on. Dig!
