The streets of South Bend and its surrounding areas will likely be packed with a lot more bikes than usual — Monday marks the beginning of Bike to Work Week.
Despite the chilly weather Monday morning, the annual event encourages workers to skip the car — and pedal to work instead.
The event, sponsored by the Bike Michiana Coalition, involves a lot more than just biking to work.
Tuesday, there will be a free blueberry pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. for cyclists. The event will take place in front of the LaSalle Grill in Downtown South Bend.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg plans to be there.
Friday at 11:30 a.m., there will be a “Bike to Lunch” gathering at the former College Football Hall of Fame building.
These events all lead up to Sunday’s Bike the Bend event — a 30-mile, round-trip bike ride from St. Pat’s Park to Mishawaka’s Merrifield Park.
