Indianapolis to become a Bicycle-Friendly City

I received an e-mail from the Bicycle Advocacy Director of a large bike shop in Indy with the news. Pretty exciting for a city of that size, and they are really celebrating. You can read her e-mail here:

Indianapolis Mayor Ballard Press Conference
Wednesday, October 15th  9:30 am
Indianapolis to become Bicycle-Friendly City

Date: Wednesday October 15 (see below for times of scheduled events)
Location: Green space at Massachusetts Avenue and Michigan (across from the Athenaeum). In the event of inclement weather, the activities will be held inside the Athenaeum at the Rathskeller Restaurant.

Who Should Attend: Anyone and everyone – invite your family, friends and co-workers!

Why You Should Attend: This is a historic event for Indianapolis.  No Mayor has publicly supported the notion that Indy should become a Bicycle Friendly City.  This, despite the decades of effort put forth by many bicycle advocates.  Show the Mayor that we support his decision by turning out for this event. We want to fill the park with bikes and people!

Scheduled Events:
Starting from 7:00-8:00 am: Group Bike Commutes to Event (Click HERE for routes/locations/start times)
8:30 am Breakfast
RSVP by Sunday October 12th
9:30-10:30 am Press Conference by Mayor Ballard. Also speaking will be David Sherman, Director of the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, and Brian Payne, President of the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

RSVP Deadline: Sunday, October 12 to help us plan for attendance and food!

How you can help:
* Attend Group Bike Commutes
* Attend the pre-Press Conference Breakfast in the Park
* Attend the Press Conference
* Help spread the word – invite fellow bicyclists, family, friends, co-workers to the event
