Update on Twyckenham Ave Bicycle Lane Striping

The following information was provided this morning by South Bend City Planner Chris Dressel, with permission to post on this site:

The City of South Bend is upgrading portions of the Twyckenham Avenue bicycle route from the current “Share the Road” designation to striped bicycle lanes (one northbound and one southbound), each 5 feet in width. The upgrade will be completed in October (weather permitting). Bicycle lanes may be interrupted near signalized intersections to accommodate vehicle turn lanes. Lanes will be striped as follows:

McKinley Avenue to Jefferson Boulevard – Bicycle lanes added. On street parking removed from east and west sides.

Jefferson Boulevard to CN Railroad Bridge (near South Street) – Bicycle lanes added. On street parking removed from the west side.

CN Railroad Bridge (near South Street) to Wall Street – Bicycle lanes added. On street parking removed from the east side.

Wall Street to first E-W Alley south of Hildreth Street – Retain “Share the Road” designation. Bicycle lanes not added. On street parking unchanged.

First E-W Alley south of Hildreth Street to Lincoln Way East
– Bicycle lanes added. On street parking removed from the east side.

Lincoln Way East to Ewing Avenue – Bicycle lanes added. On street parking removed from the west side.

Ewing Avenue to Ridgedale Road – Retain “Share the Road” designation. Bicycle lanes not added. On street parking unchanged but parking lanes will be striped on both sides of street to define separation between parking and travel lanes.
