Coal Line Trail Ribbon Cutting

Last Thursday (March 21), phase 2 of the Stephen J. Luecke Coal Line Trail was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the pavilion on the west end of the bridge. The trail now links bike lanes on Lincolnway West to the East Bank and 933 Trails. Along the way it also intersects with the Riverside Trail. Plans for a trail along the south side of the Burke (Notre Dame) Golf Course will enable users to continue east to the Notre Dame campus. Be sure to check out the beautiful new signage, including a map at the pavilion, which also has a bike repair station. Plans are in the works to begin phase 3, from Lincolnway to the new Dream Center at Orange/Colfax, in 2026. The trail is named in honor of our longest serving mayor, Steve Luecke, during whose administration South Bend's first dedicated multi-use (Riverside) was built.
